San Jose Earthquakes legend Chris Wondolowski will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on May 1, 2026, in Frisco, Texas, marking the pinnacle of his illustrious career. This highest honor in American soccer recognizes his incredible journey, largely defined by his prolific goal-scoring with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Wondolowski, who began his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2005, then played for the Houston Dynamos from 2006 to 2009, and ultimately returned to San Jose in 2010, retired in 2021 as Major League Soccer’s all-time leading scorer with 171 goals in 413 regular-season matches. His remarkable consistency saw him achieve a league-record 10 consecutive seasons with double-digit goals from 2010 to 2019.

Throughout his 17-year MLS career, Wondolowski collected numerous individual accolades, including an MVP award, two Golden Boots, three MLS Best XI selections, and five All-Star appearances. His standout 2012 season saw him score 27 goals, matching a league record, and leading the San Jose Earthquakes to the Supporters’ Shield.

Ted Howard, former deputy general secretary for the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), highlighted Wondolowski's unique path, stating, “This is incredibly significant—you’re talking about a Division II player being inducted into soccer’s version of Cooperstown. I don’t know if we’ll see another path like his again. It’s a unique story in American soccer.”

Howard further praised Wondolowski's defining trait: “What made Chris special wasn’t flash, it was consistency. He had a knack for scoring goals and did it year after year. That kind of production at that level is rare.” Chico State head soccer coach Felipe Restrepo added that Wondolowski “represents that underdog mentality—someone who develops, works, and just keeps getting better,” resonating with local players who grew up attending San Jose Earthquakes games.

Wondolowski's career was honored at every level, from the Chico State Athletics Hall of Fame (2015) to the CCAA Hall of Fame (2019), the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame (2023), and the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (2024), culminating in this national recognition.
